According to the Hanoi Health Department, some 99.50 percent of people aged from 12 years old in the city have received two Covid-19 vaccine doses and 55 percent received three doses.

"Reports from local hospitals showed that most of Covid-19 patients are experiencing mild or no symptoms," the department said. "Meanwhile, most of Covid-19-related deaths are elderly people or those with underlying diseases like diabetes, cancer, heart problems.

The city leader urged the health department to speed up the vaccination campaign, especially for people over 50 years old or those with underlying diseases to minimise the fatality rate.

"The department should set up teams to carry out vaccination at home for people who cannot travel, and encourage anti-vaccine people to get the vaccine," the leader said. "We should complete giving the booster doses of Covid-19 vaccine to all people in the first quarter of 2022.

Hanoi has become the country's largest epicentre with approximately 3,000 infections confirmed daily. On Sunday, the city reported 2,940 new cases, raising the total number of patients to 168,514.
