Nearly 24,000 more Covid-19 infections confirmed on Wednesday

According to the ministry's report, 23,953 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 62 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (2,949), Nghe An (1,900), Hai Phong (1,295), Bac Ninh (1,246), and Hai Duong (1,120). There were three imported cases confirmed the same day.

The new infections showed an increase of 2,052 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 16,608 infections found in the community.

As of Wednesday evening, 2,397,530 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (514,868), Binh Duong (293,032), Hanoi (156,848), Dong Nai (99,984), and Tay Ninh (88,637). Vietnam has so far confirmed 192 Omicron-infected cases.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,404,651. The country now stands 34th among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.

On February 9, an additional 69,825 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 2,196,602.

On Wednesday evening, a further 93 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 38,614. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (17), Can Tho (6), Hai Phong (5), Ben Tre (4), Kien Giang (4), Quang Nam (4), and Vinh Long (4).

Vietnam on February 8 administered 528,200 doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 183.72 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, including over 74.43 million people having received two doses and over 30.14 million people having received three doses.
