As many as 121 people were killed and 138 others injured in 216 traffic accidents that occurred nationwide during the nine-day Lunar New Year or Tet holiday, according to the Traffic Police Department.

During the holiday which lasted from January 29-February 6, there were 214 road accidents, killing 120 people and injuring 137 others. Two accidents occurred on local railways, killing and injuring two people, the department said.
Traffic police dealt with 25,000 violations, collecting over VND 25 billion in fines, seizing 110 cars, more than 4,000 motorbikes and confiscating over 2,000 driving licenses. Besides, police also issued fines to 1,600 people for drink-driving.
Some localities that reported high numbers of traffic violations included Thanh Hoa Province with nearly 2,000 cases, Hanoi with over 1,000 cases, and Binh Dinh Province with over 1,000 cases.
