An additional 12,170 Covid-19 infections were reported in Vietnam on Saturday and Hanoi continued to record the highest number with nearly 2,800 cases, the Ministry of Health has reported.
According to the ministry's report, 12,160 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 58 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (2,778), Danang (783), Quang Nam (735), Nam Dinh (541), and Vinh Phuc (495). There were 10 imported cases confirmed the same day.
The new infections showed an increase of 574 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 7,235 infections found in the community.
As of Saturday evening, 2,320,762 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (514,414), Binh Duong (292,964), Hanoi (145,211), Dong Nai (99,938), and Tay Ninh (88,493). Vietnam has so far confirmed 192 Omicron-infected cases.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,327,859. The country now stands 31st among 224 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On February 5, an additional 3,457 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 2,105,913.
On Saturday evening, a further 114 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 38,261 The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (39), Bac Ninh (6), HCM City (6), and Vinh Long (6).
Vietnam on February 4 administered 14,218 doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 182.10 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 74.21 million people having received two doses.
