An additional 11,594 Covid-19 infections were reported in Vietnam on Friday and Hanoi continued to record the highest number with over 2,700 cases, the Ministry of Health has reported.
According to the ministry's report, 11,586 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 59 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (2,756), Danang (1,544), Nam Dinh (620), Quang Nam (594), and Phu Tho (428). There were eight imported cases confirmed the same day.
The new infections showed an increase of 3,011 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 7,062 infections found in the community.
As of Friday evening, 2,308,602 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (514,390), Binh Duong (292,953), Hanoi (142,433), Dong Nai (99,926), and Tay Ninh (88,460). Vietnam has so far confirmed 192 Omicron-infected cases.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,315,689. The country now stands 31st among 224 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On February 4, an additional 8,509 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 2,102,456.
On Friday evening, a further 84 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 38,147 The high fatalities were reported in some localities including HCM City (5), Hai Phong (5), Thanh Hoa (5), Thua Thien Hue (5), and Vinh Long (5).
Vietnam on February 3 administered 6,320 doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 181.66 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 74.18 million people having received two doses.
