An additional 13,694 more Covid-19 infections was confirmed in Vietnam on Sunday and Hanoi continued to report the highest number with over 2,900 cases, the Ministry of Health has reported.
According to the ministry's report, 13,656 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 61 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (2,924), Danang (876), Bac Ninh (803), Hai Phong (647),and Phu Tho (545). The two provinces of Bac Ninh and Ben Tre today added over 16,000 more cases to the national tally. There were 38 imported cases confirmed the same day.
The new infections showed a decrease of 1,444 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 8,196 infections found in the community.
As of Sunday evening, 2,256,071 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (513,726), Binh Duong (292,858), Hanoi (128,790), Dong Nai (99,881), and Tay Ninh (88,068). Vietnam has so far confirmed 184 Omicron-infected cases.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,263,053. The country now stands 31st among 224 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On January 30, an additional 55,018 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 2,017,615.
On Sunday evening, a further 121 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 37,668. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (22), Dong Nai (12), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (8 ), Tien Giang (8 ), Kien Giang (7), and Vinh Long (6).
Vietnam on January 29 administered 223,939 doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 181.11 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 74.12 million people having received two doses.
