According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the cold weather started affecting some northern localities and has continued expanding to many others in the region since last night.

The northern region of Vietnam is experiencing a strong cold spell ahead of the Lunar New Year or Tet.
Many mountainous areas would see temperature lows of 7-10 degrees centigrade. Several high mountainous areas would have temperatures of below three degrees centigrade with frost.
Most of the localities, including Hanoi, would have the low temperatures of 11-13 degrees centigrade.
The chill would also hit some central localities with light rain.
The cold weather would last in the northern and northern central regions until February 4.
