The information was given by the city’s Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control at a press conference on Monday.

Pham Duc Hai, head of the board, said that over the past 24 hours, the city had recorded 296 new Covid-19 cases and the lowest number of Covid-19 fatalities of just 12 since the city faced the new virus outbreak in April 2021.

Over the past week, the city’s number of worsening Covid-19 cases dropped to 270 from 300. Only 17 people are using the extracorporeal membrane oxygenation method.

The city is providing treatment for 3,631 Covid-19 patients including 16 children.

Despite the positive results, local residents have been requested to conform to 5K measures, particularly during the Lunar New Year or Tet Holiday.

By January 16, around 7.2 million people in HCM City had been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and 564,000 people had been given the third shot of Covid-19 vaccine.

The city has maintained criteria to be the green zone for the two consecutive weeks.
