An additional 16,378 Covid-19 infections were confirmed in Vietnam on Saturday, raising the national patient tally to over two million, the Ministry of Health has reported.
According to the ministry's report, 16,305 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 60 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (2,810), Danang (874), Hai Phong (814), Khanh Hoa (654), and Binh Phuoc (651). There were 73 imported cases confirmed the same day.
The new infections showed an increase of 279 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 12,695 infections found in the community.
As of Saturday evening, 2,001,625 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (510,968), Binh Duong (292,023), Dong Nai (99,216), Tay Ninh (85,245), and Hanoi (84,970). Vietnam has so far confirmed 50 Omicron-infected cases.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,007,862. The country now stands 28th among 224 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On January 15, an additional 51,744 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 1,717,964.
On Saturday evening, a further 139 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 35,480. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including HCM City (16), Hanoi (18), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (12), Can Tho (12), Tien Giang (10), and Kien Giang (10),
Vietnam on January 14 administered 1.38 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 166.94 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 72.12 million people having received two doses.
