An additional 16,040 Covid-19 infections were confirmed in Vietnam on Friday and Hanoi continued to record the highest number with over 3,000 patients, the Ministry of Health has reported.
According to the ministry's report, 16,026 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 62 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (3,029), Danang (765), Binh Dinh (711), Khanh Hoa (680), Binh Phuoc (643), and Ben Tre (555). There were 14 imported cases confirmed the same day.
The new infections showed a decrease of 674 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 11,914 infections found in the community.
As of Friday evening, 1,985,320 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (510,604), Binh Duong (291,917), Dong Nai (99,161), Tay Ninh (84,502), and Hanoi (82,435). Vietnam has so far confirmed 50 Omicron-infected cases.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 1,991,484. The country now stands 28th among 224 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On January 14, an additional 4,290 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 1,666,220.
On Friday evening, a further 171 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 35,341. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including HCM City (15), An Giang (20), Dong Thap (14), Tien Giang (12), Soc Trang (11), Vinh Long (11), and Can Tho (11).
Vietnam on January 13 administered 1.06 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 165.52 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 71.94 million people having received two doses.
