An additional 14,818 Covid-19 infections were confirmed in Vietnam on Monday and Hanoi continued to record the highest number with over 2,800 cases, according to the Ministry of Health.
According to the ministry's report, 14,783 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 62 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (2,830), Khanh Hoa (795), Binh Phuoc (640), Binh Dinh (609), and Hai Phong (592). There were 35 imported cases confirmed the same day.
The new infections showed a decrease of 968 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 9,396 infections found in the community.
As of Monday evening, 1,908,353 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (508,247), Binh Duong (291,501), Dong Nai (98,791), Tay Ninh (82,684), and Hanoi (70,606). Vietnam has so far confirmed 31 Omicron-infected cases.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 1,914,393. The country now stands 28th among 224 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On January 10, an additional 89,842 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 1,590,090.
On Monday evening, a further 212 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 34,531. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including HCM City (19), An Giang (28), Soc Trang (22), Hanoi (17), and Dong Thap (16).
Vietnam on January 9 administered 1.24 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 161.27 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 78.29 million people having received two doses.
