The Hanoi Transportation Corporation (Transerco) has witnessed a considerable decline in public bus passengers last year due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Public buses in Hanoi were resumed operations with half capacity from July. However, just a short time later, all bus routes in the city were suspended because of a new virus outbreak. Since October 14, the routes have been resumed at half capacity.

In 2021, the number of Transerco’s bus passengers using monthly tickets decreased by 63% on-year.

The firm’s staff work on rotation with a salary cut by 70 percent.

Last year, Transerco sold 12.49 million tickets, down 72 percent against the year’s target and 63 percent on-year.

The company’s revenues in 2021 were estimated at VND2.12 trillion (USD91.37 million).

Hanoi has around 120 bus routes, covering 30 districts and towns.
