Hanoi continues to top country's daily Covid-19 infections

According to the ministry's report, 16,417 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 60 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (2,716), Hai Phong (923), Tay Ninh (853), Khanh Hoa (800), and Binh Phuoc (798). Vinh Long Province added 9,370 cases to the national tally. There were 55 imported cases confirmed the same day.

The new infections showed a decrease of 580 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 10,555 infections found in the community.

As of Thursday evening, 1,837,650 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (506,413), Binh Duong (291,218), Dong Nai (98,418), Tay Ninh (80,552), and Hanoi (59.450). Vietnam has so far confirmed 25 Omicron-infected cases.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 1,843,563. The country now stands 30th among 223 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.

On January 6, an additional 28,369 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 1,464,415.

On Thursday evening, a further 170 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 33,644. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including HCM City (21), An Giang (19), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (13), Tien Giang (13), Ben Tre (12), Dong Thap (12), Vinh Long (12), Can Tho (9), Bac Lieu (9), Binh Duong (8 ), and Kien Giang (8 ).

Vietnam on January 5 administered 1.69 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 156.90 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 70.27 million people having received two doses.
