At a press conference held by the board on Tuesday, Hai said the number of new patients confirmed on the first days of 2022 in the city had been lower than those who are discharged from hospital.
HCM City recently recorded a sharp decline in the number of Covid-19 fatalities
Since December 9, new Covid-19 cases in HCM City have drastically dropped. During the week from December 9-16, the city reported 8,686 Covid-19 patients. The figure fell to just 4,087 cases over the past week.
The number of Covid-19 deaths in the city has also been on the decline since late December. On January 3, HCM City saw only 26 Covid-19 fatalities and 407 new Covid-19 infections. On the same day, up to 433 patients in the city were discharged from hospital following their recovery.
Around two weeks ago, 700-800 people in HCM City were hospitalised per day due to Covid-19, but now, the figure is some 300, Hai added.
More than seven million people in HCM City have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
