According to the ministry's report, 16,476 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 60 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (1,914), Vinh Long (1,080), Ca Mau (1,063), Binh Phuoc (1,003), and Khanh Hoa (799), There were 39 imported patients confirmed today. Vietnam has so far confirmed 15 Omicron-infected cases.
The new infections showed a decrease of 504 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 11,404 infections found in the community.
As of Friday evening, 1,725,518 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (503,244), Binh Duong (290,671), Dong Nai (97,718), Tay Ninh (75,109), and Hanoi (45,838).
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 1,731.257. The country now stands 31st among 223 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On December 31, an additional 18,642 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 1,355,286.
On Friday evening, a further 226 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 32,394. The deaths were reported in some localities including HCM City (34), Dong Nai (18), An Giang (18), Vinh Long (15), Can Tho (15), Dong Thap (14), Binh Duong (13), Kien Giang (12), Soc Trang (11), Khanh Hoa (10), Tien Giang (10), Binh Phuoc, Hanoi (7), Bac Lieu (7), Hau Giang (6), Tay Ninh (5), Ca Mau (5), Binh Thuan (4), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (4), Tra Vinh (3), Long An (2), Gia Lai (2), Quang Ngai (1), Binh Dinh (1), and Lam Dong (1).
Vietnam on December 30 administered 1.96 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 150.93 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 68.43 million people having received two doses.
