An additional 13,889 Covid-19 infections were confirmed in Vietnam on Wednesday and Hanoi continued to record the highest number of cases, according to the Ministry of Health.

According to the ministry's report, 13,873 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 60 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (1,766), Tay Ninh (938), Vinh Long (917), Khanh Hoa (793), and HCM City (702). There were 16 imported patients confirmed today.

The new infections showed a decrease of 548 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 8,853 infections found in the community.

As of Wednesday evening, 1,689,194 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (501,990), Binh Duong (290,468), Dong Nai (97,380), Tay Ninh (73,398), and Dong Thap (43,021).

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 1,694,874. The country now stands 31st among 223 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.

On December 29, an additional 38,260 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 1,302,542.

On Wednesday evening, a further 245 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 31,877. The deaths were reported in some localities including HCM City (40), An Giang (28), Dong Nai (21), Dong Thap (15), Tien Giang (15), Binh Duong (14), Vinh Long (14), Ca Mau (14), Can Tho (13), Hanoi (11), Tay Ninh (11), Kien Giang (11), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (11), Khanh Hoa (5), Bac Lieu (4), Tra Vinh (3), Binh Thuan (3), Long An (3), Dak Lak (2), Hau Giang (2), Bac Ninh (1), Quang Nam (1), Binh Dinh (1), Phu Yen (1), and Danang (1).

Vietnam on December 28 administered 811,888 doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 148.19 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 67.32 million people having received two doses.
