Overseas remittances to Vietnam have been estimated to reach USD12.5 billion this year, up around 10 percent on-year.
This is considered an impressive growth rate as the Covid-19 pandemic has badly affected the global economy over the past two years.
The information was given by Dao Minh Tu, Deputy Governor of the State Bank, at a press conference on Tuesday morning to announce the banking sector’s major tasks next year.
So far this year, most of the remittances have been transferred to Vietnam through remittance companies.
HCM City has received the highest overseas remittances this year, accounting for roughly 30 percent of the country’s total overseas remittances.
Earlier, the World Bank and the Global Knowledge Partnership on Migration and Development forecasted that remittances to Vietnam would hit USD18.1 billion this year.
Last year, Vietnam was the third-largest recipient of remittances in the East Asia and Pacific region.
