An additional 16,377 Covid-19 infections were confirmed in Vietnam on Thursday and Hanoi continued to record the highest number of cases, according to the Ministry of Health.
According to the ministry's report, 16,367 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 62 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (1,774), Ca Mau (1,167), Tay Ninh (949), Vinh Long (855), and Khanh Hoa (797). There were 10 imported patients confirmed today.
The new infections showed a decrease of 155 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 10,152 infections found in the community.
As of Thursday evening, 1,599,150 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (497,949), Binh Duong (289,731), Dong Nai (95,993), Tay Ninh (67,772), and Long An (39,891).
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 1,604,712. The country now stands 32nd among 223 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On December 23, an additional 10,944 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 1,184,428.
On Thursday evening, a further 280 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 30,531. The deaths were reported in some localities including HCM City (44), Dong Nai (38), An Giang (28), Binh Duong (17), Dong Thap (15), Tay Ninh (14), Tien Giang (14), Long An (13), Can Tho (12), Vinh Long (11), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (10), Kien Giang (9), Ca Mau (8 ), Khanh Hoa (6), Soc Trang (6), Hanoi (5), Hau Giang (5), Bac Lieu (5), Binh Thuan (4), Binh Dinh (3), Binh Phuoc (3), Lam Dong (2), Tra Vinh (2), Quang Nam (1), Quang Ngãi (1), Phu Tho (1), Danang (1), Gia Lai (1), and Dak Nong (1).
Vietnam on December 22 administered 1.27 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 142.34 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 64.10 million people having received two doses.
