Green sea turtle rescued in Quang Nam

A rare green sea turtle has been rescued after being kept by a household in the central province of Quang Nam for three years.

According to Nguyen Tan Dung, vice chairman of Tam Hai Commune in Nui Thanh District, the animal was caught by a local fisherman during an off-shore trip. Because it has been held in fresh water and experienced a lack of light for a long time, the animal has suffered injuries to its shell.

 

The turtle has been rescued after being kept by a household in Quang Nam for three years

Local authorities called on the household to hand over the nine-kilo turtle to the Sasa Team Marine Animals Rescue for being taken care of. When the turtle’s health condition is better, it will be brought to Cu Lao Cham-Hoi An Biosphere Reserve in Hoi An City.

The rare green sea turtle is on the list of endangered rare species in most countries across the world.

In May this year, a female sea turtle that was rescued by a fisherman in Quang Nam was also handed over to the Sasa Team Marine Animals Rescue.
