Duong Van Son, 61, in Cam Xuyen District’s Cam My Commune and his four-year-old granddaughter Duong Phan Bao Ngoc are both worsening in health but the family’s financial difficulties have prevented them from going to hospital for treatment.

Marrow cancer has caused Son, an invalid, severe pain every day.
Son has three daughters and one son. All of them are poor. His daughters are living in the south, while his son Duong Van Trong and his wife have left their four-year-old daughter Duong Phan Bao Ngoc at home to go to the northern province of Bac Ninh to work for three years.
At the age of one, Bao Ngoc faced pains in her chest and developed eye problems. When being taken to hospital, she was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. Now, the girl has only four teeth.
Since 2017, Bao Ngoc has been taken to Vietnam National Children's Hospital twice every month. Since the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak, Bao Ngoc’s parents failed to send money home, so the whole treatment fees for Bao Ngoc have been arranged by her grandparents.
Early this year, Son was diagnosed with marrow cancer. Despite being in critical condition, Son has returned home due to the family’s financial difficulties. Recently, Bao Ngoc’s treatment has also been suspended.
Ha Huy Hung, chairman of Cam My Commune, said that Son’s family is the poorest in the locality. He hoped that donors could jointly support them.
