President of the Company for Vaccine and Biological Production 1 (Vabiotech), Do Tuan Dat revealed the information to Dan Viet Newspaper on November 26.
"Thanks to some sponsors, these first doses will be given to Vietnamese people as part of the country's free Covid-19 vaccination campaign," Dat said. "We expect to start using this vaccine in early December."
In June, Vabiotech signed a contract with Russia's developer of the Sputnik V Covid-19 Vaccine, Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology to import semi-finished Sputnik V vaccines for packing.
According to the contract, Vabiotech is importing five million doses of semi-finished Sputnik V vaccine a month for packaging from July 2021. The company will then receive technology transfers from the Russian partner to produce 100 million doses a year.
In July, Vabiotech sent a batch of 10,000 doses of the vaccine to the Russian developer for testing who then concluded that the batch met quality requirements.
