Authorities in Thanh Hoa Province confirmed on Thursday that a 30-year-old woman in the group of workers who had serious reactions after receiving Covid-19 vaccine at Nong Cong District Healthcare Centre on November 23 had died on the evening of November 24.
Two others had died earlier the same day after showing the same symptoms.
According to a report from Thanh Hoa Provincial Health Department, the incident occurred at Nong Cong District Healthcare Centre on November 23 when 400 workers from the Vietnam Kim Viet Footwear Company were given their second dose of the Sinopharm's Vero Cell Covid-19 Vaccine.
"Over 30 workers showed side effects after receiving the vaccine and had to be sent to Nong Cong District General Hospital for first aid treatment," the report said. "Some of them had strong reactions and were then transferred to Thanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital where they received intensive care and treatment but two women aged 29 and 30 died on the morning of November 24."
A doctor from Nong Cong District General Hospital said that most of the workers who showed side effects were women aged between 25-30. Nine of them are still being treated at the Thanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital including one in critical condition. Some others are recovering.
Thanh Hoa Provincial Health Department has sent a report to the Ministry of Health and is conducting an investigation into the incident.
The Ministry of Health has sent a group of medical experts and doctors from the Hanoi-based Bach Mai General Hospital to Thanh Hoa to help treat the victims and co-operate with local authorities in the investigation.
Vietnam has received and allocated a total of 135 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine, including 48.50 million doses of Sinopharm's Vero Cell, 46.70 million doses of AstraZeneca, 33.30 million doses of Pfizer and Moderna and the remainder being Abdala and Sputnik V.
As of November 24, the country had successfully administered nearly 113 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine with over 45.12 million people fully vaccinated.
