Tran Hoang Dieu, 35, in Giong Trom District said that earlier his wife and he worked in Binh Duong Province earning VND10 million (USD435) per month between them.

In early September, his wife contracted Covid-19 when she was in the ninth month of pregnancy. Four days after experiencing a caesarean, she died.
When social distancing measures were removed, Dieu took his two children to his hometown in Ben Tre so that his father could help to take care of them. However, Dieu’s father suddenly had a stroke. Meanwhile, his mother is also ill, so Dieu has to stay at home to take care of his children.
“I have been staying at home for several months as no-one can help to take care of my children, particularly my second child who is just two months old. So my family are facing more financial difficulties,” Dieu said.
Phan Kim Thanh, head of the Red Cross of Giong Trom Town, local authorities have donated rice for Dieu’s family. The family has also been added to the list of local poor households to receive government financial support.
He hoped that the public could help them.
