A student has died and four others were injured after falling from a school bus in the northern province of Son La.

According to a report from local authorities, the accident occurred in Mam Village in Song Ma District at 11 am on November 22 when the 16-seater bus was transporting the students home from school.
"The bus door suddenly fell off and four secondary students fell onto the road," the report said. "They were all injured and one has died from serious injuries. The students were studying at Chieng So Secondary School."
Initial investigations from local police showed that the bus was running on a curving section and the students might have been playing and leaning against the door before it fell off
Song Ma District Police are further investigating the accident.
The quality of school buses has declined in recent years in Vietnam, leading to a drop in use by students, according to education officials.
