The HCM City Department of Health is seeking the Ministry of Health’s approval for shortening the quarantine period in dedicated facilities for Covid-19 patients.

Under the proposal sent to the Ministry of Health, the quarantine time should be reduced to seven days from 14 days regulated previously for asymptomatic people who have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

According to the department, the move is aimed to ease pressure on the city’s quarantine facilities and raise the efficiency of treatment for the patients.

HCM City is facing a rise in Covid-19 infections, particularly in Hoc Mon, Binh Chanh, Thu Duc, Binh Tan districts.

At present, around 66,722 Covid-19 patients are being treated in the city, including 48,900 being quarantined at home.

The city has continued classified patients for home quarantine or being sent to quarantine facilities.

HCM City Department of Health reported that lots of local Covid-19 patients have tested negative after using the anti-Covid-19 Molnupiravir drug for a week. However, they are still required to conform to the 14-day quarantine. Amid the rising new infections, this has created pressure on many quarantine facilities.
