
A staff member, Pham Tan Quang said that he and some others had stayed at the zoo to take care of the animals during the Covid-19 outbreak. Now they were happy that the zoo would reopen soon. "We’re busy preparing for the reopening," he said. "We’re all delighted to return to our normal work and have a stable income."

Another staff member, Nguyen Van Trong working on preparing the zoo for reopening, said that many trees and bonsais had overgrown due to lack of care during the closure.

According to the zoo, visitors of 18 years old and older must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 while children are required to have a certificate proving they are negative for SARS-CoV-2 by quick tests within 48 hours prior to entry.

Ticket prices will stay the same at VND60,000/ticket/adult and VND40,000/ticket/child. Children under 1 metre high can enter free.

Located in HCM City’s District 1, Saigon Zoo has a close connection to South East Asian Zoos Association, International Union for Conservation of Nature, World Association of Zoos and Aquariums, and Vietnam Zoo Association and plays an important role in education, conservation and research on nature.

Many people consider Saigon Zoo as a key HCM City historic and cultural site.
