Vietnam continues to report rising numbers of Covid-19 cases

Vietnam has continued to report a rise in the number of new Covid-19 infections with 5,519 cases confirmed on Sunday according to the Ministry of Health.

According to the ministry's report, 5,504 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 46 localities including HCM City (1,041), Dong Nai (688), Binh Duong (672), Bac Lieu (415), An Giang (342), Kien Giang (295), Tien Giang (222), Soc Trang (180), Dak Lak (157), Binh Thuan (130), Can Tho (130), Tay Ninh (110), Long An (109), and Ha Giang (103). There were 15 imported patients confirmed today.

The new infections showed an increase of 280 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 2,327 infections found in the community.

As of Sunday evening, 916,286 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (431,101), Binh Duong (232,386), Dong Nai (65,091), Long An (34,738), Tien Giang (16,422). The outbreak has so far spread to 62 out of 63 cities and provinces nationwide.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 921,122. The country now stands 40th among 223 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.

On October 31, an additional 1,998 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 820,334.

On Sunday evening, a further 53 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 22,083. The deaths were reported in some localities including HCM City (21), Binh Duong (7), Can Tho (5), Dong Nai (4), Soc Trang (4), Bac Lieu (3), Long An (3), Vinh Long (1), Tay Ninh (1), Tra Vinh (1), Tien Giang (1), Kien Giang (1), and Dak Lak (1).

Vietnam today administered more than 927,656 doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 81.37 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 24.33 million people having received two doses.
