The land stretches in the wards of Thanh Binh, Than Truong and Nam Thanh in Dien Bien Phu City and Thanh Hung Commune in Dien Bien Province.

In March, the airport expansion project which has an investment capital of VND1.54 trillion (USD65.21 million) got the prime minister’s approval. Once upgraded, the airport can serve A320 and A321 planes and equivalent sizes with the annual capacity to be raised to some 500,000 passengers.
The project is expected to boost economic development and attract more investments into the province.
The province spent VND1.5 trillion on-site clearance and compensation for 1,000 households affected by the project.
The project is scheduled to begin in December and be completed in October 2023.
A project on expanding and upgrading Dien Bien Phu Airport in the northwestern province of Dien Bien is scheduled to begin in December and be completed in October 2023.
Dien Bien Phu Airport originally had a military purpose and was built in 1954. It started commercial operations in 1994. It has one 1,830-metre runway that can handle short-haul ATR72 and smaller aircraft. Its current capacity is 300,000 passengers per year.
