An additional 3,636 Covid-19 infections were confirmed in the past 24 hours in 50 localities in Vietnam, the Ministry of Health reported on Thursday evening.
According to the ministry's report, 3,618 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 50 localities including HCM City (1,255), Binh Duong (483), Dong Nai (390), Tay Ninh (185), An Giang (174), Soc Trang (109), Bac Lieu (102), Kien Giang (92), Tien Giang (82), and Ca Mau (80). There were 18 imported patients confirmed today.
The new infections showed a decrease of 17 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 1,649 infections found in the community.
As of Thursday evening, 872,811 infections have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (422,201), Binh Duong (227,328), Dong Nai (60,081), Long An (33,999), Tien Giang (15,331). The outbreak has so far spread to 62 out of 63 cities and provinces nationwide.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 877,537. The country now stands 40th among 223 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On October 21, an additional 1,541 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 798,124.
On Thursday evening, a further 71 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 21,487. The deaths were reported in some localities including HCM City (41), Binh Duong (12), Long An (5), An Giang (4), Soc Trang (3), Ninh Thuan (2), Dong Nai (2), Quang Ngai (1), and Hanoi (1).
Vietnam today administered more than 1.72 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 68.80 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 19.45 million people having received two doses.
