Five grey-shanked douc langurs have been found dead in a mountainous area in the central province of Quang Ngai.

Five grey-shanked douc langurs have been found dead in a mountainous area in the central province of Quang Ngai.

Nguyen Vinh Phong, head of the forest management board of Ba To District, said on October 18 that the five rare langurs were shot dead in a forest managed by Ba To Forestry Company. Besides them were a motorbike and some hunting tools, including 54 pellets.

When detected by local authorities, the group fled.

Phong added that the people may be local residents.

"We are co-cooperating with the police to investigate the case," he added.

The grey-shanked douc langurs have been listed among the very endangered species in the Red Book of Vietnam and the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red Book. This kind of animal is only found in Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Gia Lai and Kon Tum.
