An additional 3,221 Covid-19 infections were confirmed in 48 out of 63 localities in Vietnam on Saturday, according to a report from the Ministry of Health.
According to the ministry's report, 3,211 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 48 localities including HCM City (790), Dong Nai (397), Binh Duong (385), Soc Trang (142), An Giang (130), Tien Giang (121), Binh Thuan (116), Tay Ninh (101), Dong Thap (97), Kien Giang (93), and Ca Mau (93). There were 10 imported patients confirmed today.
The new infections showed a decrease of 578 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 1,475 infections found in the community.
As of Saturday evening, 856,197 infections have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (416,665), Binh Duong (224,877), Dong Nai (58,105), Long An (33,684), and Tien Giang (14,965). The outbreak has so far spread to 62 out of 63 cities and provinces nationwide.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 860,860. The country now stands 40th among 223 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On October 16, an additional 1,581 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 790,504.
On Saturday evening, a further 88 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 21,131. The deaths were reported in some localities including HCM City (58), Binh Duong (11), Tien Giang (3), Long An (3), Tay Ninh (3), An Giang (2), Can Tho (2), Binh Thuan (1), Dak Nong (1), Dong Nai (1), Gia Lai (1), Kien Giang (1), and Soc Trang (1).
Vietnam today administered more than 1.35 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 60.51 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 17.62 million people having received two doses.
