An additional 2,949 Covid-19 infections were confirmed on Tuesday in Vietnam and 1,347 patients recovered from the disease the same day, according to a report from the Ministry of Health.
According to the ministry's report, 2,939 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 43 localities including HCM City (1,018), Dong Nai (501), Binh Duong (447), Tay Ninh (112), An Giang (111), and Dong Thap (87). There were 10 imported patients confirmed today.
The new infections showed a decrease of 678 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 1,183 infections found in the community.
As of Tuesday evening, 841,592 infections have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (412,673), Binh Duong (222,975), Dong Nai (55,989), Long An (33,449), and Tien Giang (14,628). The outbreak has so far spread to 62 out of 63 cities and provinces nationwide.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 846,230. The country now stands 41st among 223 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On October 12, an additional 1,347 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 786,095.
On Tuesday evening, a further 93 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 20,763. The deaths were reported in some localities including HCM City (64), Binh Duong (13), An Giang (4), Kien Giang (3), Long An (2), Binh Dinh (2), Ninh Thuan (1), Binh Phuoc (1), Dak Nong (1), Hanoi (1), and Gia Lai (1).
The country has so far conducted over 55.22 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 16.14 million people having received two doses.
