A mother and her eldest son died in a traffic accident when returning home from the southern province Covid-19 hotspot of Binh Duong.

Ha Thi Vuong, 43, from the northern central province of Thanh Hoa’s Quang Xuong District and her 16-year-old Nguyen Van Thanh went to Binh Duong early this year to work to repay her family’s loan of VND250 million (USD10,869).

Meanwhile, Vuong’s husband Nguyen Van Canh is usually away from home as he is a fisherman. Her two other little sons are living with their grandparents.

Due to the Covid-19 outbreak in Binh Duong, Vuong and her son became unemployed, so her husband had to borrow money to send them.

After Binh Duong eased social distancing measures, Vuong and her son decided to leave for home on her motorbike. On October 4, when they were travelling through Phuoc My Commune in the central province of Quang Ngai, her motorbike suddenly collided with a truck. As a result, Vuong and her son died on the spot.

Canh had to borrow money from Quang Ngai for the cremation service for his wife and son.

Pham Thi Hang, party secretary of Hai Village, said that Canh’s family is very poor. Local authorities called for financial assistance for the family. They also contacted the schools where his children are studying to ask for tuition fee reductions for them.
