This was the second consecutive month Vietnam witnessed an on-year sharp fall in seafood exports. In August, the country’s seafood exports reached 128,580 tonnes worth USD595 million, down 30.6 percent and 26.6 percent year-on-year. The fall has been mainly attributed to the Covid-19 outbreak in southern localities, affecting seafood factories.

Demand for seafood imports from many foreign markets, including the US, EU, Japan and South Korea from now to the year-end has been forecasted to sharply increase, particularly for shrimp between October and mid-November.

Localities would need to speed up the Covid-19 vaccination for workers to ensure the operations of businesses.

Tra fish import demand from the US has remained high.

To Tuong Lan, Deputy Secretary-General of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers said that localities need to create favourable conditions for the resumption of firms as the pandemic situation has improved.
