A tropical storm in the East Sea has been forecasted to turn into a storm, causing heavy rains for the central region of Vietnam.
According to the National Centre for Hydrometeorology Forecasting, at around 7 am on Wednesday, the tropical depression was centred on an area 270 kilometres from the Spratly Islands’ Southwest Cay with wind power of 40-50 kilometres per hour.
In the next 24-48 hours, the tropical depression would move the West-Northwest direction and would grow into a storm. By 7 am on Friday, the storm would be 240 kilometres from the Spratly Islands with a wind strength of 60-90 kilometres per hour.
In 48-72 hours later, the storm would continue moving in the West-Northwest direction.
On October 6-8, the provinces from Quang Binh to Phu Yen and localities in the north of the Central Highlands would have torrential rain with rainfall of 300-500 mm. Some areas will have rainfall of up to 600 mm.
Meanwhile, many localities in the northern delta and northern central regions would face landslides and flooding.
