Vietnam confirmed an additional 5,376 Covid-19 infections on Sunday and 28,859 more patients recovered from the diseases the same day, according to the Ministry of Health.
According to the ministry's report, 5,367 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 39 localities including HCM City (2,461), Binh Duong (1,283), Dong Nai (824), An Giang (147), and Long An (85). There were nine imported patients confirmed today.
The new infection number showed a decrease of 110 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 2,674 infections found in the community.
As of Sunday evening, 803,993 infections have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (397,513), Binh Duong (215,643), Dong Nai (50,663), Long An (32,767), Tien Giang (14,120). The outbreak has so far spread to 62 out of 63 cities and provinces nationwide.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 808,578. The country now stands 43rd among 222 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On October 3, an additional 28,859 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 693,797.
On Sunday evening, a further 114 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 19,715. The deaths were reported in some localities including HCM City (79), Binh Duong (20), Dong Nai (4), Tien Giang (4), Kien Giang (2), Tay Ninh (1), Dong Thap (1), Can Tho (1), Binh Thuan (1), and Bac Lieu (1).
The country has so far conducted over 44.63 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 10.48 million people having received two doses.
