According to the ministry's report, 7,937 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 36 localities including HCM City (4,372), Binh Duong (2,103), Dong Nai (626), An Giang (172), and Long An (125). There were three imported patients confirmed today.
The new infection number showed a decrease of 807 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 4,550 infections found in the community.
The same day, the ministry added 3,417 infection cases which HCM City reported on September 28 to the national tally.
As of Thursday evening, 786,208 infections have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (388,659), Binh Duong (211,056), Dong Nai (48,595), Long An (32.468), and Tien Giang (14.000). The outbreak has so far spread to 62 out of 63 cities and provinces nationwide.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 790,755. The country now stands 44th among 222 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On September 30, an additional 25,322 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 608,831.
On Thursday evening, a further 159 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 19,098 . The deaths were reported in some localities including HCM City (106), Binh Duong (30), An Giang (7), Dong Nai (6), Kien Giang (3), Tien Giang (2), Dong Thap (1), Gia Lai (1), Tay Ninh (1), Can Tho (1), and Quang Binh (1).
The country has so far conducted over 42.16 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 9.49 million people having received two doses.
