According to the ministry's report, 10,583 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 35 localities including HCM City (5,301), Binh Duong (3,228), Dong Nai (808), Long An (424), Kien Giang (183), and Tien Giang (93). There were two imported patients confirmed today.
The new infection number showed a fall of 87 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 5,823 infections found in the community.
As of Wedsday evening, 641,244 infections have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April, with some southern localities recording high infections such as HCM City (315,088), Binh Duong (166,075), Dong Nai (37,169), Long An (29,289), and Tien Giang (12,561). The outbreak has so far spread to 62 out of 63 cities and provinces nationwide.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 645,640. The country now stands 47th among 222 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On September 15, an additional 14,189 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 412,650.
On Wednesday evening, a further 250 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 16,186. The deaths were reported in some localities including HCM City (189), Binh Duong (42), Dong Nai (4), Long An (4), Dong Thap (3), Tay Ninh (2), Phu Yen (1), Tra Vinh (1), Gia Lai (1), An Giang (1), Khanh Hoa (1), and Ba Ria - Vung Tau (1).
The country has so far conducted over 31.25 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 5.83 million people having received two doses.
