Lai Chau fines returnees from Covid-19-hit areas

Around 20 people in the northern province of Lai Chau have been fined for returning to their home from Hanoi during the application of social distancing regulations for Covid-19 prevention.

Among the people, 14 are from Than Uyen, two from Tan Uyen, three from Sin Ho and one from Tam Duong districts.

They returned from Hanoi between September 4-6. Under Hanoi’s current social distancing regulations, all people have to stay where they are to ensure Covid-19 prevention.

The violators had to pay a total fine of VND120 million (USD5,217). They have also been sent to a quarantine site as regulated. They have to pay all quarantine fees.

Le Van Huong, chairman of Than Uyen District, said since the country’s fourth Covid-19 wave the locality has witnessed one Covid-19 case who returned from HCM City.

The district has to date fined 90 people a total of VND600 million for Covid-19 prevention violations.

Lai Chau Province has detected no Covid-19 local infections.

The province is also considering prosecuting people who fled home from other localities and cause Covid-19 infections elsewhere.
