Vietnam reported an additional 12,680 Covid-19 infections on Tuesday and 13,937 patients recovered from the disease the same day, according to the Ministry of Health.
According to the ministry's report, 12,663 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 40 localities such as HCM City (7,308), Binh Duong (3,172), Dong Nai (814), Long An (372), Tien Giang (171), and Can Tho (83). There were 17 imported patients confirmed today.
The infection number showed a decrease of 1,530 infections compared to yesterday's figure. There were 7,851 infections found in the community.
As of Wednesday evening, 559,346 infections have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April, with some southern localities recording high infections such as HCM City (273,154), Binh Duong (141,765), Dong Nai (31,179), Long An (26,804), and Tien Giang (11,159). The outbreak has so far spread to 62 out of 63 cities and provinces nationwide.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 563,676. The country now stands 50th among 222 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On September 8, an additional 13,937 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 325,647.
On Wednesday evening, a further 434 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 14,135. The deaths were reported in some localities including TPHCM (268 cases), Tay Ninh (99), Binh Duong (34), Long An (8), Tien Giang (7), Dong Nai (11), Dong Thap (2), Tra Vinh (1), Vinh Long (2), Ben Tre (1), and Khanh Hoa (1).
The country has so far conducted over 23.57 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 3.76 million people having received two doses.
