Bedbound mother and son call for help

A single mother and her son in the central province of Ha Tinh are in need of financial support as they are both bedridden after accidents.

According to the 52-year-old mother, Phan Thi Huong, her 27-year-old son Phan Duc Sinh has been bed-bound for seven years after a fall on the way home from work.

"His father left us before he was born," Huong said. "I had done various jobs to raise him with little income. After finishing ninth grade, my son dropped out of school to find work."

Sinh said he wanted to go to vocational school in order to find better work. However, in late 2014, he had a cervical vertebrae fracture in a traffic accident. In order to prevent necrosis on his back, Sinh cannot lie down and has to fold his body in half all day.

A week ago, Huong fell from a container truck while working as a porter and suffered from a broken left arm, leg muscle and ligament injuries. She is also bedbound now and depends wholly on her relatives and neighbours. Huong said she only wanted her son to be able to sit up normally again so that he could use a wheelchair.

"I wish I could stand up and take care of my mother," the son said.

  

Both Sinh and Huong are bedridden

Nguyen Dang Nhan, chairman of Tho Dien Commune People's Committee said, "Huong's family is one of the poorest cases in our area. They have only a VND1 million (USD43) monthly allowance for disabled people. I hope they will get more help from kind people to overcome these difficulties."
