Vietnam reported an additional 13,137 Covid-19 infections on Sunday and 9,211 patients recovered from the disease the same day, according to the Ministry of Health.
According to the ministry's report, 13,101 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 37 localities such as HCM City (6,226), Binh Duong (3,540), Dong Nai (1,243), Long An (756), Kien Giang (345), Tien Giang (133), Can Tho (100), and Tay Ninh (91). There were 36 imported patients confirmed today.
The infection number showed an increase of 3,580 infections compared to yesterday's figure. There were 7,521 infections found in the community.
As of Sunday evening, 520,013 infections have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April, with some southern localities recording high infections such as HCM City (251,414 cases), Binh Duong (132,433), Dong Nai (28,549), Long An (25,085), and Tien Giang (10,571). The outbreak has so far spread to 62 out of 63 cities and provinces nationwide.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 524,307. The country now stands 51st among 222 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On September 5, an additional 9,211 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 291,727.
On Sunday evening, a further 281 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 12,793. The deaths were reported in some localities including HCM City (222), Binh Duong (38), Tien Giang (5), Can Tho (4), Long An (3), Binh Thuan (2), Dong Thap (2), Khanh Hoa (2), Hanoi (1), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (1), and Dong Nai (1).
The country has so far conducted over 21.44 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 3.19 million people having received two doses.
