Vehicles on Khuat Duy Tien-Nguyen Xien intersection on August 31
The number of vehicles can be observed at street junctions on August 31, especially during the rush hours. This is the third time Hanoi has extended social distancing as new Covid-19 cases are being discovered. After a new cluster of cases was found in Thanh Xuan District, the traffic flow going through this district is still high as it is one of the main streets leading to the city centre.
Checking for travel permits
There are 12 mobile checkpoints in Hanoi and people who go out necessary will be fined from VND1m (USD43) to VND3m.
Party Secretary of Hanoi Dinh Tien Dung said the fourth wave is more severe and complicated than the previous waves due to the Delta variant. He then urged the local authorities to be stricter to limit the number of travellers.
The authorities in Hanoi dealt with 1,000 violators on a daily basis. As of now, they have collected over VND50bn (USD2.2m) in fines.
