Authorities in HCM City have transferred over 2,000 people that live in poor or at high-risk areas to quarantine centres to aid in Covid-19 prevention.

Authorities in Binh Thanh District, HCM City have transferred over 2,000 people that live in poor or at high-risk areas to quarantine centres to aid in Covid-19 prevention.

The people have been moved to stay at the guesthouses and apartment buildings which were converted into quarantine centres for 22 days. Most of them are low-income people or those living in deep alleyways. People over 65 years old, with underlying diseases or difficult backgrounds, are given priority.

The move aims to ease population density in those areas and for the authorities to better monitor and take care of the vulnerable residents.

Binh Thanh District Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention is responsible for reviewing and listing eligible residents, arranging transportation and amenities at the quarantine centres including food and medicines supplies. They must have medical plans in place in case of emergencies.

Many poor households and university students were moved to the quarantine centre on August 26. Each room can accommodate four people.

Binh Thanh authorities said they would provide meals to the residents for the first few days and food supplies in the future so that the people can cook for themselves. The residents can also buy more food when mobile grocery kiosks go to the quarantine centres.
