Associate Prof. Dr Hoang Thi Diem Tuyet, director of Hung Vuong Hospital, said that since April, the hospital has received 1,000 pregnant women, including 500 infected with Covid-19. However, just five of these 500 women had babies who were diagnosed with the virus, a 1% infection rate.

Tuyet added that at present, there were around 130 newborn babies whose mothers are infected with Covid-19. Among those, 50 could be discharged from hospital. However, because of some reasons such as difficulties resulting from social distancing regulations, many have not yet been taken home by their relatives. So, the hospital has decided to set up the Hope Centre.

The hospital and the municipal Women’s Union have called for volunteers to support the centre. Baby sitters and volunteers have been trained with skills to take care of the babies.
