Many streets in the northern city of Hai Phong were deeply submerged on Thursday morning after a heavy rain that lasted through yesterday's night.

Some large streets including Cau Dat, To Hieu, Tran Nguyen Han, Ton Duc Thang, and Lach Tray were deeply flooded. Many families had to move their furniture to higher places as water flowed into their houses.

A local woman, Le Thi Lan, said that this was the first time that her house has been flooded after a rain.
"The rain was so heavy," she said. "I've never seen that much water from a rain."

According to the National Centre for Hydrology and Meteorology, many northern localities have reported heavy rains since Wednesday evening. Some provinces recorded high rainfalls between 7 pm on August 25 to 1 am on August 26 including Ha Giang with 77.6 mm, Dien Bien 58.5 mm, and Lao Cai with 56 mm.
Rainy weather is forecasted to continue today in the area while some mountainous regions may see flash flood and landslides.
