Hundreds of health workers continue to support HCM City

122 health workers from the Hanoi-based National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynaecology left for Ho Chi Minh City on August 19 to help in the Covid-19 fight in the country's biggest epicentre.

Tran Danh Cuong, director of the National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, said this was an urgent time that needs collaboration from everyone and the health sector in Vietnam should come together to help HCM City overcome the ongoing Covid-19 wave.

"It's like I was seeing my family off. There will be a lot of difficulties and challenges but it's our responsibility and ethics as a doctor," Cuong said. "We can send more staff to HCM City if necessary."

122 health workers were given VND122m and other gifts before the departure.

51 staff from the National Hospital of Ophthalmology leave for HCM City

On August 18, nearly 200 health workers at Bach Mai Hospital also left for HCM City. This is the fifth support team from Bach Mai Hospital. Many staff from Bach Mai Hospital left for HCM City earlier to operate a 500 bed ICU centre.

Nguyen Quang Tuan, director of Bach Mai Hospital said, "The Delta Variant has caused a deadly wave but we have faith to overcome it all."

51 staff from the National Hospital of Ophthalmology has also left for HCM City.

According to the Ministry of Health, nearly 13,500 health workers from various provinces and cities have been sent to HCM City and other southern provinces.
