The government have approved VND5.1 trillion (USD221.73 million) in additional funding from the state budget reserves for Covid-19 prevention and control activities.

Under the decision signed by Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai on Sunday, the funds will be used for the purchase of necessary medical materials and equipment amid Vietnam’s ongoing pandemic.

The Ministry of Health has been asked to define which kinds of medical materials, chemicals and equipment are necessary to be bought, depending on the Covid-19 situation in localities.

The use of funds as well as the purchased products must be transparent, effective and economical.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has also urged the Ministry of Health to quickly hold training courses to help localities that are being hardest hit by Covid-19 to raise their Covid-19 treatment capacity, particularly in the intensive care.

The Ministry of Defence was provided with VND1.553 trillion (USD67.7 million) from 2021 state budget reserves to facilitate the Covid-19 pandemic response.

The funds will be pumped into the ministry’s activities, including receiving people at quarantine camps, managing those passing through the border as well as other payments to personnel participating in anti-pandemic work.
