Vietnam scores a big win at 2021 Int’l Physics Olympiad

Five Vietnamese students have won three gold and two silvers at the 2021 International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) virtually hosted by Lithuania, the Ministry of Education and Training has announced.

Five Vietnamese students have won three gold and two silvers at the 2021 International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) virtually hosted by Lithuania, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) announced on July 24.

Three gold medals went to Nguyen Manh Quan and Tran Quang Vinh, both from Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, and Trang Dao Cong Minh from High School for the Gifted of University of Natural Sciences (Vietnam National University in Hanoi).

Two other silver medals were awarded to two students from High Schools for the Gifted in Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces,

Winning three gold and two silver medals, Vietnam finished seventh trailing behind the Republic of Korea, China, Russia, the United States, Taiwan and Romania.

The IPhO 2021 was originally scheduled to take place in 2020, but was postponed later due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year’s event was held by Lithuania in an online format, attracting 368 contestants from 76 countries and territories worldwide.

Earlier, the MOET announced that Vietnamese students had won a gold, two silver and two bronze medals at the 2021 International Biology Olympiad, and a gold, two silver and three bronze medals at the 2021 International Mathematical Olympiad.
