Vietnam records over 1,000 Covid-19 infections in six hours

Vietnam has confirmed 1,112 new Covid-19 infections in the past six hours, raising the total number of patients in the country to 31,590 the Ministry of Health reported at noon on Monday.

According to the ministry's report, 1,105 of the newly-confirmed patients are locally-transmitted cases 998 whom were detected in quarantine sites or areas under lockdown in some localities including 879 in Ho Chi Minh City, 82 in Dong Nai, 49 in Tien Giang, 38 in Dong Thap, 26 in Hanoi, nine in Phu Yen, seven in Bac Giang, seven in Hung Yen, three in Tay Ninh, two in Bac Lieu, and one each in Binh Phuoc, Soc Trang, and Vinh Phuc.

Ho Chi Minh City continued to report the highest number of new infections in the country. On Sunday, the city also recorded 1,397 new patients, the majority of which are individuals who came into contact with confirmed Covid-19 patients or who were detected in either isolation and locked down areas. The city has imposed social distancing measures in 15 days starting from July 9 in an effort to prevent the virus spread.

As of Monday noon, 28,086 locally-transmitted cases have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country on April 27, including 14,435 in the virus hotspot of Ho Chi Minh City. The outbreak has so far spread to 58 cities and provinces nationwide.

Seven imported patients are all Vietnamese people who recently returned from Cambodia and Japan. They were all sent to quarantine areas in Tay Ninh, Hoa Binh, and Hai Phong upon arrival and are now being treated at local hospitals.


With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 31,590 including 29,656 locally-transmitted cases.

As of 6 pm on July 11, a total of 9,275 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital.

So far there have been 123 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.

At present, over 259,000 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.

By the end of July 11, Vietnam has conducted over 4.05 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine. More than 277,000 people have received two doses of the vaccine.
